Athyrium otophorum (Japanese painted fern)

With Athyrium otophorum the new fronds are soft grey-green colourand changes to dark green on maturity. The stipe has a reddish purple giving it the image of being painted on. Goes dormant in winter and in colder areas is almost totally deciduous. Will develop a short upright trunk over time.
