Platycerium bifurcatum - Staghorn

Platycerium bifurcatum - Staghorn
Latin name:
Paltycerium bifurcatum
Common name:
staghorn
Keywords:
staghorn fern

Staghorn as it is commonly called - an epiphytic fern that grows succesfully on ponga or trees feeding from the bark and decaying matter they may trap in their leaves. Very drought hardy so do not overwater 9but do not just leave to dry out either!!)

In New Zealand they are frost tender so in winter put a frost cloth over them.

They can get to quite large size and produce by yoing plantlets shooting off from the parent also they poduce spore under the frond and this is the light brown lamos like leather to look at you will see at certain times of the year.
