Pikopiko fern

Latin Name Asplenium bulbiferum

Common Name pikopiko

The pikopiko fern is truly native to New Zealand and its species name is Asplenium bulbiferum, there are several variants of Asplenium bulbiferum and the pikopiko variety is distinctive in that its stems are greener and fatter than the species usually seen in Garden Centres. It's new fronds are edible and are considered a delicacy, you pick them at about 5-6cm tall just before the koru unfolds to a full frond. As to how to cook them look up the web and there will be instructions there I am sure.

Availability of this particular fern is not often seen in Garden Centres so you probably need to contact us or other fern Growers to get them.
