Matteuccia struthiopteris - Ostrich fern

Matteuccia struthiopteris - Ostrich fern
Latin name:
Matteuccia struthiopteris
Common name:
Ostrich or shuttlecock fern
Keywords:
ostrich fern, shuttlecock, fern, matteuccia

Is deciduous and cold hardy. Grows upright fronds that resemble a shuttlecock and hence the name sometimes given. Lovely fresh green fronds in the spring. Has runners from which new plants arise so needs a bit of space to spread itself out, but don't let it get out of control as can become invasive
Likes boggy areas most of all though provided the roots are kept moist it will stand the sun ok.
